Fretly — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 October 2026

Fretly has no account, no sign-up, and no server of its own. Your songs, your progress, and your microphone audio stay on your device. The only data that leaves your device is what Google's advertising service needs to show ads in the free version, described below. Fretly Pro removes ads entirely.

What Fretly does not do

Advertising

The free version of Fretly shows a full-screen ad, at most once every few minutes, when you open a song you imported yourself. Built-in exercises never show ads, ads never appear while you are playing, and people who own Fretly Pro never see ads.

Ads are provided by Google AdMob. To show and measure ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects and shares with Google your device's advertising ID, approximate location derived from your IP address, and information about your device and how you interact with ads. Google's use of this data is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and in Google's Privacy Policy.

Microphone

Fretly asks for microphone access for two features: the tuner, and the practice mode that listens while you play.

Your files

You choose which Guitar Pro or MusicXML files to open. Fretly copies them into its own private storage on your device so it can open them again later. These files never leave your device, and Fretly does not upload, index, host, or share them.

Fretly does not provide or distribute any tablature. It only opens files you already have.

Purchases

Fretly Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Fretly never sees your payment details. It only asks Google Play whether this Google account owns the product, so it knows whether to unlock the Pro features. Google's handling of that transaction is covered by Google's Privacy Policy.

Data stored on your device

Fretly keeps a small amount of information locally so the app is useful between sessions: your song list, the bar you last stopped on, your favourites, and your chosen tuning. This never leaves your device, and uninstalling Fretly removes it.

Children

Fretly is a music practice tool and is not directed at children under 13. Fretly itself collects no personal data from anyone; the advertising data described above is handled by Google AdMob under Google's policies.

Changes

If a future version of Fretly changes what is collected, this page will be updated before that version is released.
